Russia receives another batch of Sukhoi-34 bombers
Russia’s combat aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi has delivered another batch of front-line bombers Sukhoi-34 to the customer – the Defense Ministry, TASS reports.
“The planes took off from the manufacturer’s airdrome in Novosibirsk to head for their location,” the company said in a news release obtained by TASS.
The news release does not specify the number of aircraft provided to the Defense Ministry.
It is expected that Russia’s Aerospace Force is to receive a total of 150-200 Sukhoi-34 planes. The first contract was concluded back in 2008. Another agreement on the delivery of another 92 bombers was signed in 2012. Earlier, Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov said the contract might be implemented ahead of time. About 100 planes have been provided by now.
The Sukhoi-34 bomber is capable of carrying a bomb payload of up to eight tonnes and develop a maximum speed of 1,900 kilometers per hour. The maximum range is 4,000 kilometers. Planes of this type have been used in the operation in Syria.
