One more Indian has committed suicide in the UAE, raising the number of people who ended their lives due to psychological and financial problems.

Shyam Kumar, 47 from Kallampalam near Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, allegedly ended his life by hanging from the ceiling fan of his house in Al Musalla area of Sharjah.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, friends of the deceased man said his wife was frantically calling up friends and relatives in the UAE to know the whereabouts of her husband, who was not answering his mobile phone for a couple of days.

“When he was not answering calls, she informed a family friend to inquire about his whereabouts. On checking his room, the man was found dead, hanging
from the ceiling fan,” a friend said.

Shyam Kumar was working with Dow Chemicals in Jebel Ali.

“Shyam got a job termination letter and the same night he hanged himself,” said the family friend. He hails from a well-to-do family and owns property and
shops back home, friends said. “He decided to terminate his life after getting a job termination letter,” they said.

An official spokesman of Dow Chemicals confirmed the death, but said all details are with the Sharjah Police which is investigating the death. “Dow Chemicals does not like to say anything about this case, because it is currently being handled by Sharjah Police and only they can reveal any detail,” he said.
The PR agency handling the Dow Chemicals account did not reveal how long the employee was working with the firm or whether he was served a termination letter just before his death.

Shyam Kumar’s body has been sent for autopsy and forensic investigation. His family back home is yet to get details of his death. Friends and relatives were
frantically searching the man through facebook and other networks. His family was living in the UAE, but had moved to India.

A family friend, who was trying to locate the missing man through social networking sites, said: “His wife kept calling up her relatives and friends to
know his whereabouts.  We tried to locate him from the company but failed.”

Meanwhile, another Indian, who allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the eighth floor of a high-rise residential tower in Sharjah, was working for a
chartered accountancy firm and the body’s repatriation has been delayed because police sent the body for forensic investigation.

“Three colleagues who work in an accounting firm in Dubai were getting ready to go office and a car was waiting below. One of the three friends went back
from the lift, saying he had forgotten a key in the room. While the other two went down and were waiting for their friend to come and join them to go to
office, he did not come back from the room,” said a source familiar with the suicide. “When they went back, the room’s window was open and he had allegedly
jumped to his death from the window,” he said.

Sharjah Police investigated the death and cleared his body for repatriation. The young man was a chartered accountant who was suffering from depression
because of financial problems.
