“They must have two!” said Chinese officer…”No longer Gender imbalance”

“To solve an increasing gender imbalance, government should roll back one-child policy and instead mandate all new generations to have two children” said Mei Zhiqiang, deputy director Family Planning Commission of Shanxi province, earlier last week.

“Fristly we must make government policies allow new generations to give birth of two children” he said. “In fact, they must consist of two children,” he added.

“It cannot be required upon” said Global Times, affiliated by Communist Party mouthpiece People’s Daily, Friday last week. It also urged Chinese government’s caution of proposing new initiatives.

Practically from late 1970s in an effort to check population growth, most of young families were restricted to have only one-child according to government planning policies.

The regulation led to brutal crackdowns on those chinese families with more than one-child, sometimes including forced abortions, even sterilization.

However, the policy exacerbated an existing gender imbalance fed by Chinese traditional desire to obtain a son.

During year of 2014, nearly 116 boys were created for every 100 girls in China. Meanwhile, sex ratio in the total population was raised to 105 men: 100 women.It caused widespread social unrest as millions of men are not able to find wives.

However, China’s total population still stood at 1.37 billion by the end of 2014, an increase of 7.1 million over the year of 2013.
