Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway to open this year
Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will be ready this year, stated by Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizade, Azerbaijani media reports.
Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is being constructed on the basis of an agreement between Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey. Its total length is 826 kilometers. After the railway will start functioning, it is expected that mutual trade between countries will increase significantly and may exceed $10 billion per year.
“Currently, work is going on the project of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. Functioning of this railway will start this year. It has a strategic importance for Azerbaijan and Georgia; also it has an international character” – stated Rasizade.
Earlier, the Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan informed that the project of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will be ready for use before the end of the year.
