Hyundai Motor to hold job fair for suppliers
Hyundai Automotive Group, Korea’s second largest conglomerate, plans to organize a series of large-scale job fairs to help its small-and medium-sized parts suppliers secure talented workers. This is also expected to provide millions of young job seekers here with a good opportunity to find work.
The world’s sixth-largest automaker said Monday that it will hold job expos across the country from April to May for about 300 local firms that manufacture a wide range of auto parts both at home and abroad. The carmaker’s parts suppliers plan to hire a total of 10,000 new employees through the planned fairs, which will help ease the nation’s high unemployment rate.
Hyundai said the event will be the country’s first large business group that finances and organizes a job fair for subcontractors.
“We expect about 300 auto parts makers from all over the country will take part in the upcoming fairs to recruit new employees. At least, 50,000 jobseekers will likely visit career counseling booths set up at the expos to explore potential employment opportunities,’’ a spokesman at Hyundai Automotive Group said. “Participating companies are seeking to employ over 10,000 new workers within the first half of the year. We are positive that the event will be one of the country’s largest and successful job fairs.’’
The event will first be held at COEX in southern Seoul on April 25-26. The carmaker will then set up a venue for parts suppliers to hire new employees at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju on May 3.
Those seeking to work for car parts manufacturers in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province will be able to explore employment opportunities at the Daegu Convention Center on May 9-10. Jobseekers will be able to obtain information on their prospective employers.
“Our partners are facing a hard time in securing talented manpower. The upcoming job fairs will help them hire competent workers. They will also help create jobs for those residing in provincial areas and provide a boost to municipal economies,’’ the company spokesman said.
“On top of honing their technological prowess, they need to secure high-skilled and global-minded workers to survive in the highly competitive global market,’’ the spokesman said. “We will continue to lend hands to our business partners in hiring talented manpower they need in the future.’’
The automaker also plans to set up a comprehensive job portal for its subcontractors to help them hire needed employees all year around. <Korea Times/Lee Hyo-sik>
