Congo Refugee Kids in Uganda
ISINGIRO, Uganda — Refugee children from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) sit in front of a tent provided by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees at Nakivale Refugee Settlement Camp in the southwestern Ugandan district of Isingiro, on March 20, 2012. Decades of gun fire, mass massacres, and rapes have forced tens of thousands of Congolese to flee to neighboring Uganda. Recent Ugandan government statistics show that between 100-150 refugees from the DRC on a daily basis cross to Uganda’s frontier district of Kisoro, fleeing what they say political violence. Most of them are transferred to the refugee camps in southwestern Ugandan district of Isingiro by the Ugandan government. <Photo: Xinhua/Yuan Qing>
