Financed by the World Bank, the Yemeni government started Sunday the national campaign to fight schistosomiasis that will cover 160 districts in 12 governorates, and targeted about 45 percent of Yemen’s 24 million population aged six years and beyond this age. According to the World Heath Organization, Yemen suffers from a high disease burden of schistosomiasis, with three million people estimated to be infected and 600,000 severe chronic cases. <Xinhua/Mohammed Mohammed>
