Turkey Media Backlash

A TV journalist reports at Gezi park in Istanbul, Tuesday, June 4, 2013. As Turkey’s largest city was convulsed by some of the most widespread anti-government protests the country has seen in modern times, the country’s broadcast media looked away. Dense clouds of acrid, choking tear gas might have been blanketing the central square of Turkey’s largest city, but it was penguins that were the theme of the evening on one of the country’s largest private television stations. Its nature documentary ran uninterrupted, while another channel opted for a cooking show and a documentary on Adolf Hitler. (AP Photo/Kostas Tsironis)
