New economic zone to open in Uzbekistan
Acting President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed creating a new free economic zone in Urgut district of Samarkand region, Akhborot news program of Uzbekistan TV channel reported, Gazeta.uz cites.
Currently, 40 industrial enterprises, including 19 joint companies, operate in the industrial zone in Urgut, occupying almost 42 hectares and employing some 1,200 people. Last year, they produced over 20 types of products worth UZS 157.5 billion soums; exports exceeded USD 10 million.
In 2017, 78 new projects of industrial production will be implemented, with about 3,400 people expected to be employed in the region.
There are three economic zones offering special privileges for investors in Uzbekistan. These are Navoi free industrial and economic zone created in 2008, Angren special industrial zone launched in 2012 and Jizzakh special industrial zone with a branch in Syrdarya region created in 2013.
