Kazakh Universities Enter World’s Top Universities

Central Downtown Astana, Kazakhstan

QS World University Rankings, designed to help prospective students choose the school to continue their education, presented its rankings of the best universities in the world. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took first place among the nation’s universities and entered the list of the 250 best universities of the world, The Astana Times reports.

The rating takes into account the university’s efficiency in four areas: research, education, employment and internationalisation, with 40 percent of the evaluation depending on its reputation in the scientific community. The rating is based on professors’ opinions and the views of almost 76,500 individuals were used for the assessment.

Twenty percent of the estimate is determined by the faculty/student ratio. Typically, the smaller the group of students, the more individual the approach each has an opportunity to receive from his professors. An additional 20 percent of the score is based on the number of citations for published research.

Of the remaining input, 10 percent depends on the feedback of employers who define what they are seeking in graduates of higher education institutions. The last 10 percent is divided evenly between the number of foreign instructors and foreign students attracted to university.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University placed 236th in the world.

L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Astana was ranked 345, higher than such Russian institutes as Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and Moscow State Institute of International Relations, which are considered to be authoritative institutions in the territory of the former Soviet Union.
