Russia Celebrates the Victory Day

Russia has marked the Victory Day on May 9 which is the anniversary of victory against Nazi Germany in 1945.

Moscow and other regions of Russia celebrated the day with military parades. 10,000 military personnel, 135 armored vehicles, and 71 aircraft took part in the events.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has joined the celebration by carrying the portrait of his father who fought during the war.

He addressed the fight against terrorism in his speech, “Today our civilization has faced brutality and violence – terrorism has become a global threat. We must defeat this evil, and Russia is open to joining forces with all countries and is ready to work on the creation of a modern, non-aligned system of international security,” Pars Today reports.

Over 110,000 residents of the Altai Territory and 50,000 resident of the Russian Far Eastern Primorye Territory also joined the events.

According to official statistics, about 27 million Soviet citizens, including both civilians and servicemen, died in the war against Nazi Germany in 1941-1945.
