Samsung – Creating Smiles for Tomorrow
I belong to a generation when meanings were symbolized by icons. For us, peaceful resistance was named after Gandhi, black liberation meant Martin Luther King, fighting for independence was called Nasser. It was the same when we were talking about items we use in daily life. Kodak for the world of photos, fridge for refrigerators, Kleenex for facial tissues.
I thought that such an age was over, till the digital industrial revolution started, with new icons to shape and reshape our lives. Samsung has become one of those “eternal” icons.
I have had the chance to visit Samsung’s innovative R & D in Korea more than once. Every time, a feeling grows that Samsung is not just a brand for making digital appliances. It is a way of life that spreads the “digital culture” in more ways than one. Now, Samsung mobiles and TV sets are a part of ordinary people’s lives, thanks to the prices, easy usage and availability.
With the spread, the onus on Samsung grows as well. More educational and supporting missions are required from this huge global company. Samsung has to prove it is a good partner that cares about the societies of its markets.
As an Egyptian citizen, I suggest Samsung starts digital classes for the countries in need, in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Classes and schools equipped with Samsung technology, to make education easier, gainful and filled with fun. The students of today are the Samsung customers of tomorrow. They will carry the mutual smiles of a brand and an icon together.
