Turkish Police Chief drives stolen car, goes undetected
Mahmut Karaaslan, the police chief of the Provincial Security Directorate of Ankara, exposed the security weakness of the Turkish capital. He tried an extraordinary tactic to control the works of policemen.
He drove a stolen car for three days in all streets of Ankara, but he couldn’t be detected by security officers and Mobile Electronic System Integration (MOBESE), which provide 24-hours camera control system, Haberturk reports.
He also couldn’t be detected by Plate Detection System which is available in 513 different places in the center of the city during March 19, 20 and 21.
He sternly warned the police officers, especially MOBESE operators, because of his non-stop travel without any control.
Ankara faced three terror attacks during the last months. Mahmut Karaaslan was appointed to Ankara after the last bombing in March. The issue about controls of automobiles becomes one of the major problems in Turkey.
The February bombing, which resulted in 30 people’s death and 60 injured, was also committed by a car bomb.
According to investigation reports, the bomb car was stolen in the city of Izmir and terrorists drove to Ankara without any security check.
The March bombing was also committed with a stolen car which was bought in the city of Sanliurfa.
Mahmut Karaaslan is described as a ‘Terrorism Expert” because of his previous work in Ankara and Van provinces. He will establish a new structure to struggle against terrorism with new security teams in Ankara where his targets are ISIL, PKK, and other terrorist organizations.
