f(x) come back as “4 walls”
As their first release after becoming a quartet, the girls of f(x) release their latest album “4 walls.” It was announced in August 2015 that Sulli would be leaving f(x) group to focus on her acting career, while the remaining four girls resuming their musical career as a quartet.
“4 walls” is their fourth album, as well as their first album as a four-member group, which is why the name seems more appropriate. The album covers a wide array of genres from electropop and electronica to deep house, as f(x) are known for their experimental nature. Up till now, only one single was released of the album as a music video which is “4 walls”, the title track.
From October 21 through 26, an art gallery located in the Itaewon District and called 4 Walls: An Exhibit showcases the individual member’s teaser videos on each of the four walls, as a promotion for the album.
The album includes 10 new tracks, with a collaboration from ZICO of “Block B” in one of the tracks, “Traveler.” The title track “4 walls” is a quieter title track compared to other title tracks from previous albums. “Glitter” is a soft love song, while “Deja vu” is a nice mixture of soft melodies and rap, they also add a bit more of funk to their track “X”. “Rude Love” is a groovy dance song with intense piano tunes, “Diamond” is one of the sharpest songs in the album. “Traveler” includes more of ZICO’s vocals over a bass background, while “Papi” is a dance song with strong rap chorus.
“Cash Me Out” is a typical f(x)-style song, while the last song in the album “When I’m alone” is a slow song, with more focus on the chorus.
The video for “4 walls” travels between two sets of locations, one being a square frame, a 4 walled room, while the other being a forest. It was also revealed that the music video was shot in Jeju Island.
