Ruling party tackles low birth rate in South Korea

The South Korean government decided to take into consideration Saenuri ruling party’s suggestion to reform educational system.

According to that, the government and the ruling party had a meeting on Wednesday, where they discussed ways to address the low birth rate problem in their aging society, according to KBS news.

The two sides agreed on some ways to solve that problem as making Elementary school years five instead of six, and decreasing the years of middle and high school as well from six years to five years, thus fastening the process of youth participating in the society.

They’re also going to discuss decreasing univeristy years from four years to three years according specializations.

After the meeting, deputy Lee Myung Soo, memeber of the health and care committee in the parliament, pointed that the delay in youth entering the job market eventually leads to delayed age of marriage thus resulting in a low birth rate.

He asks the government to arrive at some long lasting measures, including renewing the the educational system. He also stressed on the importance of providing those who get vacations for taking care of their children with 80% of their pay.
