International Ebola Recovery Conference to secure global support

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is convening the International Ebola Recovery Conference at UN Headquarters in New York in cooperation with the Presidents of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The conference, taking place on 9-10 July, will see the international community stand alongside the Presidents of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, and the Secretary-General of the Mano River Union, to support their recovery strategies and demonstrate a continued commitment to the people affected by the outbreak.

The conference is expected to secure financial commitments to support the implementation of the national and regional recovery strategies over a two year time frame. All in an effort to ensure the countries receive the resources they need to “get to zero cases, stay at zero cases and recover.”

The social and economic impact of Ebola will be felt long after the outbreak has ended in West Africa. The outbreak has affected virtually every social and economic sector in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone – with a particular impact on health services, jobs and schools. The commitments and resources raised from the continued partnership of the international community will help establish resilient and vibrant communities that can stay free of Ebola and re-establish social and economic development.

The UN is organizing this conference in partnership with the African Union, European Union, the World Bank and the African Development Bank. The high level event on 10 July will be convened by the Secretary General and attended by the Presidents of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The African Union will be represented by its Chairperson. Participants at the high-level event will pledge continued support to the National Recovery Strategies and the Mano River Union sub-regional Programme. The conference is preceded on 9 July by technical consultations on the recovery strategies.
