Sleeping in the house of holy
The famous mosque built by Mughal emperor Shahjahan in 1640s stands to this day. As much as it functions as a tourist spot for many around the country as well as foreigners, it also fulfills the purpose of being the ‘House of God’. Prayers are regularly offered and citizens of Thatta, where it is located, visit here often. In this photograph, many people are seen sleeping inside the mosque which provokes interesting thoughts about how this gigantic mosque (which has 100 domes, just to give an idea of its enormity) has become a commodity for, possibly, homeless people. It is what, in its true essence, a holy place should be: giving people a crutch and support to survive. As it’s commonly believed, god is there for those who have no one else.
