Young Korean monochrome painter to make debut in France
The 26-year-old young artist Hwang Young-soo was selected to participate in two major invitational art exhibitions later this year in France. Hwang will participate in the Salon des Indépendants at the Grand Palais and the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts at the Carrousel du Louvre in November and December respectively. Hwang is planning on displaying monochrome paintings at the two exhibitions.
This past May, Hwang received a special award in the nonfigurative category of the 35th Korea Modern Art Exhibition and received the attention of many artists. Hwang was able to be invited to the French exhibitions due to the recommendation of artist Min Tae-hong, 56, a master of “finger painting,” painting using fingernails or nails. Min’s artwork is usually very colorful and based on five colors, a big contrast to Hwang’s monochrome paintings. Min explained that he recommended Ms. Hwang as he believed in the potential of her work to achieve great success. Hwang will be making her debut at a relatively early age on the world stage. Hwang revealed her aspirations and said, “I plan to be successful as a world renown monochrome painter.”
