Southeast Asian Cartoon Art History, Trends and Problems
Edited by John A. Lent | McFarland | 2014
John A. Lent brings together eight essays to provide the first overview of cartoon art in Southeast Asia. These essays provide both historical and modern observations of cartoons and comics in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam as well as sociocultural and political analyses of cartooning in Singapore, Myanmar, and Malaysia. The findings of the four contributors of this book are based on hundreds of interviews with Southeast Asia’s major cartoonists as well as analysis of all genres of printed cartoon art including political and humor cartoons, newspaper comic strips, cartoon periodicals, etc.
