The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to reduce power cut from the existing 80 hours a week to 75 hours, effective from Thursday.

According to Chiranjibi Sharma, the spokesperson for the NEA, the effective enforcement of the drive against electricity leakage and increase in the efficiency of major hydropower projects in generating power in recent months helped the NEA reduce the power outage hours.

As part of the campaign against electricity leakage, the Ministry of Energy and the NEA had decided to increase load- shedding by up to five hours more than the schedule in areas that reported maximum power leakage.

Meanwhile, the average rainfall recorded last year also contributed in maintaining the water level in the Kulekhani reservoir, the country’s only storage type project. <Xinhua>
