Mr Um Hong-gil said at the opening ceremony, “We will never stop challenging and our goal is to build 16 schools, like the number of 16 eight-thousand metres peaks.”
Mr Ramnayt Tukgal, a Member of Nepali Parliament said, “It is not a myopic plan to build 1 or 2 schools, but a long-term vision. I am really grateful for continuous support through your foundation.”
According to Um Hong-gil Human Foundation, the Lumbini Human School Project was sponsored by Millet (CEO Han Chul-go), an outdoor clothing company, Industrial Bank of Korea (CEO Cho Jun-hee) and AIA Life (CEO Lee Sang-hui).

Mr Um Hong-gil lost a Nepali Sherpa Suldin Dorji during his expedition to the south-west side of Himalaya in January 1987. Then, he decided to build a school in Pangboche, a hometown of Suldim Dorji and 23 years later, his dream came true. On 5 May 2010, he opened the Pangboche Human School. On 23 February 2011, he opened the second school in Tarf. The ground-breaking ceremony for the fourth school will be held on 25 February in Kaski co-hosted by the Daegu Chapter of Um Hong-gil Foundation and Korea International Cooperation Agency.
