Alittihad, a UAE’s major daily, carries poems of Ko Un, a noted Korean poet. The Arabic version of Ko’s poem was translated by Ashraf Dali, Chief of The AsiaN’s Middle East Bureau.
Al-Ittihad (“Union” in Arabic) is an Arabic language newspaper published daily in the United Arab Emirates.
The paper was launched as a weekly 12-page volume and distribution to 5500 copies, and it was distributed free to stand in the face of competition from newspapers, some of the other Arab countries. The first issue of Al Ittihad appeared on 20 October 1969 in a period of sustained action of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. With the proclamation of the UAE in 1971 published “The Union” for several consecutive days and were issued on a daily basis for two weeks in August 6, 1971 and that on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan came to power in Abu Dhabi.
