Fayoum Art Center invites worldwide artists to attend winter academy 2013

The Fayoum Art Center invites artists from across the world to participate in Fayoum Winter Academy 2013. The artists will work together for six weeks, and receive supervision from instructors that are available during the academy program. Courses include painting, printmaking, sculpture, video and filming, performance and installation art. The Academy opened this year for musicians and writers as well.

The Winter Academy aims to foster cooperation between artists of different nationalities and backgrounds. Artists live together at the center over the course of the program, preparing and eating meals together while critically discussing both their art and their world.

The Fayoum Art Center is situated by the beautiful Lake Qarun, which is one hour away from Cairo. It is surrounded by mountains, sand dunes, palm trees and water falls. Participants are encouraged to let the scenic landscape of Fayoum inspire them, and to use material from the surrounding environment in their work.

Projects, which are developed during the Academy, will be exhibited first in the Art Center in Fayoum, and after this the exhibition will move to Cairo.

Participating in the Academy is free of charge, but each participant must pay their own travel expenses and an additional 20 Euro (EGP 160) each day for accommodation and food. Participants are welcome to bring a tent for camping in the center, this way the fee will be 10 Euro (EGP 80) per day. Internet is available for a fee of 10 Euro for the whole period. The participants can choose to stay for two, four or all six weeks.

Fayoum Art Center offers basic materials for the workshops, any additional expenses regarding material will be covered by the participants.

We welcome participants from all over the world to apply. The application can be downloaded from the website www.fayoumartcenter.com, and we ask you to attach your CV, a one-page description of a project to be developed during the academy, and also a sample of your previous work.

The deadline for applying is December 15th and the participants will be selected by January 1st 2013.
