Trip to Nami Island presents foreign tourists with exotic experience
My vacation plan to Korea was merely dealt with my interest with Nami Island as a perfect tourism destination, located at Chuncheon District. My plan was realized when I arrived in Korea for my five day trip. Packed with necessary information, four of my friends and me started our journey to Nami Island on 7th Nov.
Our journey started from Namsan at 9 am, Korean time. From Namsan, we headed to Myeongdong station exit 4. We had to transfer to three different stations to get to Nami Island. It took us about an hour to get to Nami Island.
We arrived at Gapyeong Station, the nearest station to Nami Island. Then we took a taxi and headed to Nami Island’s harbor. The taxi fee was just 3000 won, which was pretty affordable. For your information, Nami Island created its own republic called Naminara Republic, a country within a country. That’s why there’s an immigration gate at the island. We bought tickets to get to Nami Island using little ferry ship.
Because my status as an international tourist, I just had to buy a 8000 won ticket, instead of a 10.000 won ticket, which was for domestic tourist. We had to show our passport too while we were buying our tickets. It took about five minutes to get to the island.
There was an interesting moment when we crossed our way to Nami island. There were about 20 young Korean guys dressed up in military uniforms. It made me wonder about them and their purpose to Nami Island. After I asked the tour guide, it was revealed that they were citizens in their military training and they were having their vacation to the island too.
The experience when I arrived at Nami island was incredible. The scenery was just what I expected it would be. There were tall trees with reddish leaves, also couple of water fountains used as a shooting backdrop for K-drama “Winter Sonata”. I found a tree covered with hopes of the tourists next year, written on wooden boards.
We immediately took photos to seize our moments in every sites of the island. We posed our shot at the table used in the first kiss scene in Winter Sonata and in the front of the main actor and actress, Bae Yong-Jun and Choi Ji-Woo statue. This beautiful and exotic island could also be seen by art installments made by recycled materials, such as aluminium cans, designed intricately to a pile of cubes. Those art installments were used as a decoration to beautify the exotica of the island in the middle of Cheongpyeong dam.
