Daejeon to host food, wine festival

For connoisseurs of fine wine and international cuisine, the “2012 International Food & Wine Festival in Daejeon” will run from Oct. 12 to 15 at selected locations around the city.

With a population of over 1.5 million, Daejeon is often referred to as the Silicon Valley of Asia.

Guests will be offered the chance to visit beautiful inner-city parks, such as Daejeon Convention Center, Daejeon Trade Exhibition Center, Expo Science Park and Expo Citizens Square.

The countries represented include Austria, Australia, China, the Czech Republic, France, Georgia, Germany (6 booths), Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy (8 booths), Japan, South Africa, Spain, Uruguay, the U.S. and Uzbekistan.

Activities and events will feature “World Food, Wine & Traditional Liquor Exhibition,” “Korean Cuisine and Wine (Traditional Wine),” “The 2012 Daejeon Grand Sale,” Yuseong Hot Springs Wine Spa,” “Wine and Art,” “Wine and Traditional Liquor Sommelier Competition,” “International Food & Wine Seminar” and “Wine School.”

There will be a special opening performance featuring jazz musicians from Korea and abroad at the Expo Science Park at 4 p.m.

A “Premium Wine” at the exhibition hall will present wine and wine art from around the world. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste premium samples.

There will also be a special “Noble Couple Event,” where 1,000 single men and women (500 of each) will be invited to a special social occasion.

At the closing gala dinner show, the “Best Wine of the 2012 International Food & Wine Festival in Daejeon” will be announced at the main stage at 6:30 p.m.

The festival is sponsored by Daejeon Metropolitan City, the Ministry of Food Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries and Korea Tourism Corporation.

Daejeon is two and a half hours from Incheon International Airport by limousine bus, 40 minutes from Cheongju Airport and 50 minutes from Seoul Station by KTX. The city has an excellent public transport supported by a modern subway and bus system.

There is no entry charge.
