Auroville Where Everyone is Happy
People from different countries and regions meditate in front of the Matrimandir, a golden symbolic metallic sphere in the center of Auroville, Tamil Nadu, India, on Jan. 5, 2012.
Auroville (City of Dawn) is an “experimental” township founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa of France. “Auroville is meant to be a universal town where men and women of all countries (and regions) are able to live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity.” Alfassa said. Now, 2,200 people from 43 countries and regions live in Auroville. <Photo: Xinhua/Li Yigang>
