PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ introduced in NBC, following CNN, ABC

Korea’s popular singer PSy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ was introduced in the NBC’s morning news “The Today Show” following the CNN and ABC, confirming its growing popularities in the United States.

Natalie Morales who is a co-anchor of the NBC Today Show, introduced PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ for one minute  on August 22nd (local time). NBC’s Today Show showed PSY’s music video, Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies’, and scenes of PSY’s horse dancing with spectators in the Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.

In the light of the nature of the NBC broadcasting representing the conservative stratum of the U.S., it is a rare case that Korea’s pop singer was introduced for one minute in NBC’s Today Show’.

Amid growing popularity of K-Pop in the world, it is the first time that a Korean popular musician was solely introduced by NBC. Noteworthy thing is that it has been quite rare for the NBC to broadcast any specific Korean news except introducing outstanding Korean athletes like Se-ri Park, Yuna Kim and Park Chan-ho. Its favorite coverage of political news is about North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, his son Kim Jong-eun and his wife Lee Sol-ju.  PSY is likely to be the first Korean entertainer who appears to all in all major U.S. broadcasting companies if he is introduced in FOX TV only.

PSY on the other hand gained iTunes music video chart summit in the United States, Finland, Australia and New Zealand for the first time as a Korean pop singer. He ranked second in YouTube, posting 48 million views as of 11 a.m. on Aug. 23rd.
