Turkish Doctors Treat Cataract Sufferers In Sudan

The Turkish relief association, Kimse Yok Mu has opened an eye clinic to perform cataract surgeries to thousands of cataract sufferers in the war torn province of Darfur. It is estimated that 10 million Africans experience vision problems stemming from cataracts. Hot weather, malnutrition and climate conditions in Africa cause many people to lose their sight to cataracts at a young age. One of the main goals of Kimse Yok Mu’s efforts is to train local medical staff to do the medical work of Kimse Yok Mu. Since 2008, Kimse Yok Mu’s cataract treatment center in the Sudanese city of Nyala has examined 70,000 people for signs of the blinding disease and volunteer Turkish doctors have treated 10,000 needy patients. <Cihan News Agency>
