Yu-na to hold ice show in August
Kim Yu-na will stage an ice show in August, her agency announced Tuesday.
The 21-year-old reigning Olympic champion, who decided last week to extend her competitive career to the 2014 Winter Olympics after a two-year break, will host “All That Skate Summer 2012,” scheduled to run from Aug. 24 to 26 at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul, according to All That Sports.
It added that Kim will come up with a new exhibition program for the event.
In her previous show in May, she performed two new programs to Michael Buble’s “All of Me” and Adele’s “Someone Like You.”
The annually-held ice show has gained attention by inviting high-profile figure skaters that have previously included Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek of the United States and Russia’s Evgeni Plushenko and another American Olympian Michelle Kwan. It looks like living up to expectations again this time around.
Russian skater Alexei Yagudin, the 2002 Olympic gold medalist and four-time men’s singles world champion, will perform at the event for the first time, while Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin, the 2006 Olympic pairs champions, and Canadian Joannie Rochette, who took bronze at the 2010 Vancouver Games, will also head to Korea.
The agency said that more skaters will be added to the lineup later.
“Kim Yu-na is currently training hard at the National Training Center in Taeneung,” Koo Dong-hoi, vice president of All That Sports, told reporters.
“The ice show will be loaded with thrilling performances, enough to resist the sweltering heat.” <The Korea Times/Kang-Seung-woo>
