More couples got hitched last year, even as the trend of divorce continue to inch upwards in 2011.
The figures on divorces and marriages in 2011 were released on Thursday morning by the Department of Statistics Singapore.
Last year, the number of marriages stood at 27,258, compared to 24,363 in 2010. Similarly, the number of divorces also climbed: from 7,338 in 2010, to 7,604 last year.
Continuing a trend since 2006, the ages of those getting hitched are also increasing. The median age of first-time grooms climbed from 29.7 in 2006 to 30.1 in 2011. For first-time brides, the median age rose from 27.0 to 28.0.
