“Turkey cannot remain silent to tragedy in Syria”: Turkish FM

Turkish Foreign Minister on Saturday said a humanitarian tragedy unfolded everyday in Syria, adding that Turkey could not remain silent in the face of the
Syrian regime’s brutal crackdown on its people.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said that It was impossible that we remain indifferent to this tragedy.

“Not only is the Assad regime but any regime in the world that persecutes its own people not a legitimate regime in our eyes,” Davutoglu told reporters in a press conference in the Black Sea province of Trabzon.

Turkish Foreign Minister said the dimensions of the crisis in Syria had grown to a point that greatly concerned everyone, adding that the regime’s massacres continued without any sign of stopping.

He also added that Syrian people were brother and friend to us. The Assad regime had become a source of instability.

“We attach great importance to the territorial integrity of Syria regardless of the regime or the government,” also noted Turkish Foreign Minister.

Ahmet Davutoglu Also answered a a question regarding a possible shift in China’s position on Syria, Davutoglu said Turkey
and China shared similar concerns over the Middle East.

Turkih foreign minister said stability in the Middle East was important both for Turkey and China.

“Because instability in the Middle East is a serious risk in terms of access to energy resources for both of us,” Davutoglu also noted.

Turkish Foreign Minister also said the international community should build up pressure on Syria to respect and implement the Annan plan to end
