Colonial Era Building Serves As Historical Monument In Karachi
“Frere Hall: A beautiful and historical monument in Karachi, Pakistan, built around a hundred and fifty years ago, in 1865 during the British rule in the Indian sub-continent. It was a gift from Seth Edulji Dinshaw, a Parsi philanthropist in that era, to a British colonial administrator, Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere who was known for supporting and promoting economic development in Karachi back then. It was designed by Lt. Col. St. Clair Wilson, and was built in Venetian Gothic style using yellowish Karachi limestone and red and grey sandstone from Jungshahi (Sindh). Apart from being historically important, it also houses the masterpiece of a legendary South Asian artist ‘Sadequain’ – a painted ceiling of the main hall.”
