Ashraf Aboul-Yazid’s poems published in Turkish

*Editor’s note: Ashraf Aboul-Yazid, chief of The AsiaN Middle East bureau, is not only a noted journalist but also a famous poet and novelist in the region. Born in Egypt, he is now active in Kuwait writing stories on wide rage of topics for Al-Arabi Magazine and The AsiaN. His poems and novels enjoy high popularities among the people in the Middle East. Thanks to the popularities, an anthology of his poems has come to be published in Turkish by a publishing company in Instanbul.    

A new book is published by Art Shop in Istanbul, with an anthology of selected poems written by the Egyptian novelist and poet Ashraf Aboul-Yazid, and translated into Turkish by Metin Findikçy. 

The poetic anthology includes selected poems from the poet’s five volumes; The Whisper of the Sea (1989),The Shells (1996), The Memory of Silence (2000), On the Path of Death (2001), The Memory of Butterflies (2005), as well as poems published later up to the year 2010. 

The Turkish translator and poet Findikçy’s work is a continuous effort to introduce the most significant modern poetry to the Turkish readers, as he translated works written by Adonis, Mahmoud Darwish, Nizar Qabbani, Ghada Samman, Nazik Al-Malaika, Ahmed Al-Shahawi, Amjad Nasser, Maysoon Saqr, Mohammed Bennis, and Abbas Beydoun, among others. 

Ashraf Aboul-Yazid’s works in poetry and fiction have been translated into English, Spanish, Russian, Persian and Korean. He is expected to travel  to Istanbul later for signing his new book, that is published after more than 20 of his in poetry, novels, biography, art criticism, travels, and children’s literature.
