AJA issues statement on World Press Freedom Day

On the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day which fell on Thursday (May 3),  the  Asia Journalist Association (AJA), represented by Ivan Lim, issued a statement in which it said “we would like to applaud the journalists doing their best to convey the truth to their readers.”

It continued that “as of the end of April this year, 17 journalists lost their lives on the spots of their news coverage and as many as 46 others were killed during last year. We believe that the lofty ideal of those who fell victims while safeguarding the freedom of press will not be forgotten.”

Freedom of reportorial activities could not be restricted under any situations and journalists are asked to stand in the van to defend the lofty values of human right and world peace, it said.

The AJA would like to encourage the journalists who seek the truth and practice freedom of press in this region, it concluded.
