Kyrgyzstan president highlights priorities in meeting with media
Bishkek: Kyrgyzstan President Sooronbay Jeenbekov has stressed that reforming the judicial and legal system and the fight against corruption were among the priorities of his presidency.
The digitalization of the country, the implementation of the state policy for regional development, taking measures to improve the investment climate and supporting the social sector and agriculture are also high on his agenda, Jeenbekov told the heads of the Kyrgyz media and correspondents of foreign media accredited in the country.
He also talked about cross-border issues, the country’s foreign policy, and illegal developments in the capital.
He said that the media contribute to the development of the country and to strengthening the transparency and efficiency of the public administration system.
A similar meeting with the media in Kyrgyzstan in March 2018 was genuinely productive and led to good suggestion on various issues, the president said.
As the floor was opened to the media in Saturday’s meeting, the participants raised pressing socio-political and socio-economic issues and asked questions about the implementation of the judicial reform, public debt management, the role of civil society vis-a-vis reforms, the electoral threshold in the upcoming parliamentary elections, and the events that unfolded in the country in August 2019.
According to KABAR, Kyrgyzstan’s national news agency, the meeting lasted more than two hours and Jeenbekov answered questions from 26 participants.
