Kyrgyzstan celebrates International Day of Older Persons
Bishkek: More than 83,600 pensioners in Bishkek had a special celebration as the Kyrgyz capital celebrated on October 1 the International Day of Older Persons.
Celebrations included a relay race that featured Scandinavian walking, organized for the elderly in Bishkek.
Employees of the National Red Crescent Society in Kyrgyzstan and members of AgeNet International helped the participants of the marathon, KABAR news agency reported, citing the press service of the Mayor’s Office.
Deputy Prime Minister Altynai Omurbekova, Minister of Labor and Social Development Ulukbek Kochkorov and employees of the Bishkek Mayor’s Office greeted and congratulated the march participants at the finish line near the monument to Kurmanjan Datka.
As part of the celebration, the “From heart to heart” exhibition-fair of handmade products was organized with the support of the Bishkek Mayor’s Office, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, as well as gerontological centers of the capital.
Also, pensioners were given the opportunity to receive free medical care, KABAR added.
On September 30, in the Kyrgyz National Philharmonic Society named after Satylganov a festive concert took place, during which the city’s pensioners were congratulated by deputies of the Bishkek city council.
