Colombo: The Lotus Tower, South Asia’s tallest tower standing at 350 meters in Colombo, was opened by Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena on September 16.
The 17-storey tower comprises a telecommunication museum, a restaurant, supermarkets, food courts, conference halls with seating for 400 people, a 1,000-seat auditorium, luxury hotel rooms, ballrooms and an observation deck.
It was constructed at a cost of $104 million, of which 80 per cent was funded by the EXIM Bank of China, the Government Official News Portal reported.
The Lotus Tower is seen as one of Sri Lanka’s significant landmarks and an epitome of its economy, culture and development.
A commemorative stamp was issued by the Department of Posts to mark the opening of the tower.
