Mongolia, Russia launch joint military drill
Ulaanbaatar: Mongolia and Russia have launched a joint military tactical training involving more than 1,500 military staff from the two countries.
The military exercise, Selenge-2019, launched at the training field of the 327th military unit of the military armed forces in Choibalsan city, Dornod aimag, will run until August 27, Mongolian news agency Montsame reported.
The field training includes involving soldiers from both countries in destroying illegal armed groups. The 12th military drill is being held on the 80th anniversary of the battle of Khalkhiin Gol.
Named after the Selenge River, which flows through Mongolia and Russia, the military exercise has been organized annually since 2008.
Up until 2011, the drill was a live fire exercise, but it gradually expanded to include complex tactical scenarios that included amphibious assaults and tactical landings during river crossings, the agency said.
Mongolian and Russian military officials were present at the launch of the military training.
