Flight check-in suspended as Hong Kong airport swamped for second day
Hong Kong: Flight check-in has been suspended at Hong Kong International Airport for the second consecutive day.
“Terminal operations at Hong Kong International Airport have been seriously disrupted, and all check-in processes have now been suspended,” the airport authorities said in a statement posted on the airport website.
“All passengers are advised to leave the terminal buildings as soon as possible. Affected passengers please contact their respective airlines for flight arrangement.”
For the last five days, the airport, one of the busiest in the world with 75 million passengers a year and more than 120 airlines, has been the site of protests.
Social media platforms have displayed pictures and videos of passengers attempting to find their way through the demonstrators who had refused to vacate the premises and used luggage trolleys to erect barriers and block departures.
The unrest that has afflicted Hong Kong for more than two months has not shown any signs of abating.
