Maasai Warriors Grasp Cricket Bats Instead of Spears
LAIKIPIA, Keyna – Cricket coach Aliya Bauer assists one of the Maasai Warriors from the Laikipia region in Kenya during a training session in Ilpolei Laikipia county, Sunday, March 25, 2012, before heading to South Africa for the Last Man Stands World Championships – a T-20 event that will go on till 7th April. The Maasai Cricket Warriors have exchanged their spears for cricket bats and they are using cricket as a vehicle to empower youth and to target social problems in order to bring about positive change in their communities. Dressed in their signature colorful garbs, instead of the traditional cricket whites, the warriors will add zing and bling to the game when they take to the ground, armed with a wooden bat. <Photo: AP/Newsis>
