No. 57 – 27 February 2013
Dear friend,
As the first full moon of the lunar calendar passes, traces of spring seep through my clothes. I hope the year of 2013 brings you even greater happiness. After my time as the president of the Journalists Association of Korea (2002-2005), there is a phrase I have always kept close at heart. “Can anyone become a journalist?” To qualify to become a journalist, one needs to be alert and have acute and critical eyes on the scene, and one needs to exhibit one’s imagination and creativity when observing and directing the future of human society. However, as time passes, I continue to feel how difficult this is. I entered The Hankyoreh Daily News as a journalist in 1988 upon its foundation and stayed there until September 2010. I then started the online media, The AsiaN (www.theasian.asia) on November 11, 2011 in Korean and English and then later launched Chinese and Arabic editions. Later, I founded a publishing company and published my first item, a book of poetry, Kuwait Woman, by Souad Al Sabah, translated by Lee Dong-eun and Jang Se-won. I believe my career is a constant extension of my perspective as a journalist. At the end of April, I plan to publish a magazine called ‘N,’ both on the web and in print. I plan to use your teachings as the foundation as I go forward and prepare Magazine N. February 27, 2013 Sincerely |
