No. 51 – 16 January 2013

Dear friend

1/24th of 2013 has passed as we enter mid-January.

If you are having difficulty carrying out your plans for January, there is still plenty of time to make revisions.

We have chosen to post the Kuwaiti poet and recipient of the 2012 Manhae Prize for Literature, Dr. Souad Al Sabah’s anthology preface at the top of this week’s newsletter.

The title of the anthology is ‘A Woman from Kuwait.’ Professor Dong-eun Lee of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and Professor Se-won Jang of Dankook University translated the preface very poetically. It is rare for Arabic poems to be introduced in Korea. The AsiaN is very happy that its first publication will be the anthology of Dr. Souad Al Sabah.

She is well respected by the Kuwaiti people as she has led in advocating for women’s rights to participate in the government even though she is a member of the royal family. She also runs an NGO to care for the poor.

I believe Professor Andrei Lankov’s refined column will bring much insight to all of you. I would also like to express my gratitude to Mrs. Sabeena K. of the University of Calicut for choosing to write her academic dissertation on Ashraf aboul-Yazid’s novels.

Next week, I promise to bring you even better articles.

January 16, 2013

Sincerely
Lee Sang-ki, CEO & Publisher of the AsiaN
