Syria, a “powder keg of the Middle East,” is still going through a tragic civil war without finding a clue to the solution of the problem. It is contrasted with the situations in Egypt and Libya which have realized a certain degree of democratization, though still being partial, through the civil uprisings called “Jasmine Revolution.” What makes the difference? It is needed for any country or organization to rely on outside help when being incapable of solving a certain problem. But, major powers like the U.S. and China appear not being positive in solving the Syrian situation apparently in consideration of their national interests.

Meanwhile in Northeast Asia, China, Japan and Korea, three major countries in the region, are locked in territorial disputes among themselves. The long-standing disputes have been repeated almost every year like an annual event. It makes us feel uncomfortable when we think of how long we should continue this kind of conflict among the neighboring countries.

The AsiaN would like to advise: “Don’t fight and have open-minded conversations face-to-face. If not enough with this, do it again, again and again.” It is our firm belief that there is no eternal enemy.
