The photo shows Piyain River, of Jaflong in the north-eastern part of Bangladesh. It boasts of the natural beauty of mountains and waters flowing from India. The river is also a scene of hard labour to more than 2,000 men, women and children working for stone collecting and crushing under severe condition more than 12 hours a day. Labourers of all ages work on small boats or wade through the river, buckets and spades in hand, to collect stones. Stone extraction and crushing at Jaflong pose public health and environmental issues. The photos were recently taken by Mr. Mohammad Mujibur Rahman, Senior Sub-Editor of National News Agency of Bangladesh (BSS), President of Bangladesh Photographic Society (BPS) and member of the Asia Journalist Association Bangladesh Chapter.
