No. 47 – 19 December 2012
Dear friend
Today’s Korean presidential elections bring new leadership to North East Asia for 2013. Last month, China’s Premier Xi Jinping came to power, on the December 16th, Japan’s Prime Minister Shizo Abe of the Liberal Democratic Party was elected. Korean people chose new president today. Along with Kim Jong-un, who ascended as the First Secretary of the Workers’ Party of North Korea last year, the incoming president will be in a position to lead politics, the economy and diplomacy in Northeast Asia in 2013 as one of the 4 new heads. The whole world is watching how these 4 politicians will solve the pending issues of the region such as North Korea’s nuclear issues, territorial disputes, North Korean refugees, etc. The AsiaN suggests for the 4 leaders of the Republic of Korea, China, Japan and DPRK to have a summit meeting at the symbolic region of the DMZ, which divides the last divided nation in the world, in 2013, the year marking the 60th anniversary of the armistice agreement between the North and the South. We hope the leaders can personally feel why peace and the protection of our environment are important. The Russian writer Tolstoy, author of the novel War and Peace, wrote “The happiest moment in the year is when one feels like they have become a better person at the end of the year than in the beginning.” I hope all of you find this quote true at the end of 2012. December 19, 2012 Sincerely |
