One out of 6 graduates of medical schools becomes doctors in China
Among 6 graduates of medical university in China, only one person becomes a doctor and the rest appeared to change their job to another type of business.
China Youth Daily reported on Aug. 13 that every year 600,000 students graduate medical universities in China, but peoples who wear doctor gown actually, are no more than 100,000, quoting words of experts from medical worlds.
Experts from medical worlds say: “As medical universities from each regions of China increase the number of people to be actually recruited, average freshmen of 600,000 enter school every year. However considering of medical market demand in China and curriculum of doctor nurturing system, many medical university students seek another jobs such as researcher or teacher and select to go to abroad for further studies.
According to a survey conducted by China Youth Daily on 8 students of medial university, six students among eight appeared to have done hospital cleaning, and basic examination during their practical exercise period becase of excessive number of those to be trained. In addition, actual practice period of three students among 8 persons was no more than 6 months.
Through his blog, one medical student complained: “As the number of students is on the rise over 1,000 peoples, university side allocated students into big and small hospitals by trying every possible means with a push-in mode. But in hospitals whose medical level is low and which don’t have any experiences of training medical students. That’s why students are not able to practice properly”.
China Youth Daily reported that there is a public uproar among medical students: “There are not much to learn properly even though they enter into medical universities.” This newspaper added that graduation is directly linked to unemployment.
Medical experts in China pointed out in connection with such phenomenon that associated medical universities must improve urgently current system under which the effectiveness of education is lackluster compared to the amount of money being invested. They said that medical universities must diminish the number of students and prepare ways to upgrade the quality of education so that medical university students can serve at all hospitals of various levels after their graduation.
As of the end of last year, professional doctors in China total 2,466,000, according to the statistics from the Ministry of Health. China has three times more professional doctors than those in India and the United States having some 750,000 respectively.
