Samsung, one of world’s largest electronic companies, perceived opportunity to expand its market in Indonesia. Country with more than 230 million population, growing economy with GDP of 6,5 percent in 2011 and large market for electronic consumers makes Indonesia a potential market for the South Korea’s giant electronic company.
UK based research company, ResearchBuyer.com, reported that Indonesia’s consumer electronics devices market is projected at about US$10.6 billion in 2012 and is expected to continue growing up to US$17.6 billion by 2016.
In 2011, Samsung’s sales in Indonesia were 0.5 percent of its US$145,2 billion global sales. Samsung reportedly double its sales in Indonesia to US$1.5 billion, according to Investor Daily.
Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s largest maker of memory chips, mobile phones, flat-screen panels and televisions hits new record in sales for Indonesian market. Jakarta Globe, one of Indonesian leading media, reported that Samsung is targeting its growth in Indonesia to reach 1 percent of its global sales.
“Therefore, we are raising our investment every year so that our sales can improve,” Samsung consumer electronics business director Iffan Suryanto said.
It would make Indonesia its second largest market in South East Asia. “We expect household appliances to contribute some 35-40 percent to the target, cell phones 55-60 percent and the rest from IT products such as computer monitors and printers,” Iffan said.
Samsung Electronics Co. announced on Friday that its preliminary second-quarter operating profit rose to nearly 80 percent compare to last year according to Associated Press’ report. The significant rise in Q2 of 2012 profit is due to its mobile business. In its first quarter profit report this year, Samsung reportedly stroke 5.85 trillion Korean Won in profit. The Q2 revenue is expected to reach 46 trillion to 48 trillion Korean Won.
