Indonesian taekwondo athletes aim four golds
JAKARTA, May 11 (Xinhua) — Indonesian taekwondo competitors are expecting to grab four gold medals during the International Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) in Riau Province in June 2013, a sports official said here Friday.
“We have chances [to win golds] in kyorugi [fighting] and poomsae [form] events,” Budi Setiawan, an official from the Indonesian Taekwondo Association, was quoted by the Jakarta Post as saying.
He said that the red-and-white team would rely on Fransisca Valentina and Lia, both competing in women’s events, and Muhammad Nabil in men’s events.
“Dani also has good chance to win [gold] in poomsae,” he said.
Indonesia plans to field a team of 16, consisting of eight male and eight female athletes, to compete in the Games attended by member countries of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OKI).
Budi said that challengers from Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Morocco were among the tough contenders.
The taekwondo competition will feature 11 events, comprising eight fights and three poomsaes.
